Sonoma County is not a single place but a constellation of distinct communities, each with its own character and its own idea of what a kitchen should be. Healdsburg gathers around a tidy central plaza ringed by tasting rooms and the bend of the Russian River; Sonoma keeps its history visible in the adobe walls and mission buildings off its eight-acre plaza; Sebastopol still smells of apples in the Gravenstein season; and Santa Rosa, the county seat, anchors it all with neighborhoods that range from the Victorians of the McDonald Avenue district to the newer hillside homes of Fountaingrove. Since 2006, PineWood Cabinets builds custom kitchens across this whole spread, knowing that the right design for a Glen Ellen ranch house is rarely the right design for a downtown Petaluma Victorian.

The county runs from the Sonoma Coast and the redwoods of the lower Russian River valley inland to the Mayacamas ridge it shares with Napa, and that geographic range shows up in its housing. Along the Westside Road and Dry Creek corridors near Healdsburg, homes sit among vineyards and oak savanna with long views and indoor-outdoor living at the center of daily life. In the Valley of the Moon between Glen Ellen and Kenwood, older ranch properties and newer estates share the same narrow valley floor. Closer to the coast, in Sebastopol, Forestville, and Occidental, the homes tend toward farmhouses, cottages, and the casual rural architecture of a place that was orchards and dairies long before it was wine country.

Our clients here are as varied as the towns. Some are longtime residents updating the kitchen of a home they have owned for decades; some are winemakers, growers, and hospitality professionals who live where they work; and some are newcomers drawn by the slower pace who want a kitchen that finally matches the house and the setting. What they share is a preference for substance over flash, the same instinct that makes Sonoma County feel more agricultural and unhurried than its neighbor to the east.

Because the county is so spread out, we treat each project as a study of its specific location. A kitchen meant to open onto a Dry Creek terrace is planned around afternoon light and the flow between the cooktop and the grill outside; a Santa Rosa remodel inside an existing footprint is planned around squeezing real storage and better circulation out of the walls that are already there. The standard of craftsmanship stays constant from one end of the county to the other; the design follows the house.

Our work reaches across the county. In the north, we serve Healdsburg, Geyserville, and Cloverdale, where vineyard properties along Alexander Valley and Dry Creek call for kitchens built around views, entertaining, and wine. Through the central county we work in Santa Rosa, Windsor, Rohnert Park, and Cotati, a mix of established neighborhoods and newer construction where remodels often mean reworking an existing layout into something far more functional.

To the south and west we serve historic Sonoma and the Valley of the Moon towns of Glen Ellen and Kenwood, the river-town character of Petaluma with its protected downtown of iron-front and Victorian buildings, and the orchard country around Sebastopol. Wherever the project sits, the process is the same: we come to the house, study how it is used and where the light falls, and design a kitchen that belongs to that home and that corner of the county.
