Peninsula Renovation, Built Around the View
Kitchen Remodeling in Tiburon, CA
Tiburon's homes climb from the Old Tiburon waterfront up steep, view-facing slopes toward the Belvedere peninsula. Our kitchen remodeling is built around the real conditions of these houses: older layouts, hillside access, and the Richardson Bay outlook that should never be lost behind a cabinet.
Renovating Kitchens on the Tiburon Peninsula
Tiburon occupies a narrow peninsula that reaches south into San Francisco Bay, with Richardson Bay and Sausalito on one side and the open water toward Angel Island and the city skyline on the other. The town grew up around the ferry landing and the Northwestern Pacific rail yards, and when the railroad left, the waterfront became Main Street and the hillsides filled in with homes chasing the view. Most of those houses were built between the 1950s and the 1980s, and their kitchens were designed for a different era of cooking and entertaining. Since 2006, PineWood Cabinets has been remodeling those kitchens for owners who want the space to finally match the setting.
A kitchen remodel in Tiburon is rarely a simple swap of cabinets. The houses here come with conditions: closed-off galley plans that wall the cook away from the bay, split levels that scatter the kitchen across half-flights of stairs, and the steep, switchbacking streets of Old Tiburon and Hawthorne Terrace that make every delivery a small operation. Closer to the Belvedere line and out toward Paradise Cay, marine air adds its own demands on hardware and finishes. None of this is a reason to compromise; it is simply the reality a serious renovation has to plan for.
Our approach treats the remodel as a chance to correct what the original builders could not anticipate. We reopen plans toward the water where structure allows, recover wasted volume in corners and soffits, and rebuild the kitchen around how the household actually cooks and gathers today. The result is a kitchen that belongs to the house and to the peninsula, not one lifted from a showroom floor.
What a Tiburon Kitchen Renovation Involves
Every part of our remodeling work is shaped by the peninsula's older homes, hillside lots, and waterfront climate.
Reworking Closed-Off 1960s Layouts
Many Tiburon houses date from the post-war boom that followed the closing of the Northwestern Pacific rail yards, with compartmentalized kitchens cut off from the view. We open these plans carefully, respecting structure while reclaiming the bay outlook.
- Wall and bearing-point assessment
- Galley-to-open conversions
- Sightline planning toward the water
- New cabinetry to match new footprints
Hillside and Split-Level Logistics
Houses stacked up the slopes of Old Tiburon and Hawthorne Terrace rarely have an easy delivery path. We plan staging, hoisting, and modular cabinet runs around steep driveways and tight switchback streets.
- Access and staging planning
- Modular runs for tight stairwells
- Multi-level kitchen integration
- Coordination with steep-lot constraints
View-Driven Cabinet Design
A Tiburon kitchen renovation lives or dies by the Richardson Bay and Angel Island view. We keep upper runs low or open over sinks and ranges so the water and skyline stay in frame while you cook.
- Low or glass upper cabinets at windows
- Window-wall planning
- Reflective and light-toned finishes
- Sink and range placed to the view
Salt-Air and Climate-Ready Materials
Waterfront and ridge homes near Paradise Cay and Richardson Bay take a beating from marine air. We specify finishes, hardware, and door construction that hold up to coastal humidity and salt exposure.
- Marine-grade hardware options
- Moisture-stable door construction
- Sealed and durable finishes
- Ventilation planning for damp air
Whole-Kitchen Renovation Management
A remodel touches framing, electrical, plumbing, and finishes at once. We coordinate the trades, the Town of Tiburon permit process, and the sequencing so the project moves without the usual stalls.
- Trade coordination and scheduling
- Permit and inspection support
- Demolition through final finish
- Protection of adjacent rooms
Pantry, Storage, and Utility Recapture
Older Tiburon homes waste space in awkward corners, shallow soffits, and unused chimney chases. A renovation is the moment to recover that volume as pull-outs, a tucked pantry, or a proper appliance garage.
- Corner and dead-space recovery
- Walk-in or reach-in pantry builds
- Appliance garages and charging zones
- Recycling and waste integration
How a Tiburon Remodel Unfolds
A renovation touches the whole house at once. A deliberate sequence keeps the work moving and your home livable.
Site and Structure Review
We walk your Tiburon home to understand the existing layout, the structural picture, the access path up the hill, and exactly how the renovation should reframe your relationship to the view.
Renovation Design
We develop the new floor plan, cabinetry, and material palette together, with 3D renderings that show how the reworked kitchen sits within the rest of the house and frames Richardson Bay.
Build and Coordination
Cabinetry is hand-built while we sequence demolition, framing, electrical, and plumbing on site, keeping the rest of your home protected and livable throughout the project.
Installation and Finish
We install, fit, and finish the kitchen with care, coordinate final inspections with the Town of Tiburon, and walk the completed space with you before we leave.
Why Tiburon Remodels Are Different
There is no generic Tiburon house. A waterfront condominium near the ferry landing on Main Street, a 1960s view house on Paradise Drive, and a tucked cottage in Old Tiburon each present a completely different remodeling problem. What they share is geography: a long, narrow peninsula where space is precious, the grade is steep, and the bay is always part of the equation.
That geography drives our decisions. We protect and frame the view toward Richardson Bay, Angel Island, and the San Francisco skyline rather than blocking it with tall cabinet runs. We plan access for streets that buses do not climb. We respect the Town of Tiburon's permitting and the wind-and-water exposure of ridgeline and waterfront lots alike. The remodel has to answer the place, not just the plan.
Tiburon sits minutes from Belvedere, Corte Madera, and Mill Valley, and we serve the whole southern Marin shoreline. But the work itself stays local in its thinking, built for the exact house in front of us.

Tiburon Kitchen Remodel Questions
Practical answers for the renovation realities of the Tiburon peninsula.
My Tiburon house is from the 1960s with a closed-in kitchen. Can the wall to the view come out?
Often, yes, but it depends on what the wall is doing. Many of the houses built on the peninsula after the rail yards closed used the kitchen partition as a load path. We start every renovation with a structural review so we know whether a wall is bearing before we promise an open plan. When it is structural, we plan for a beam and the framing it requires; when it is not, the kitchen can open straight to the Richardson Bay outlook.
How do you handle deliveries and demolition on a steep Tiburon hillside lot?
Access is one of the first things we assess. Streets like those climbing through Old Tiburon and Hawthorne Terrace are narrow and steep, with limited parking and tight switchbacks. We plan staging areas, break cabinetry into runs that move through stairwells and switchbacks, and schedule deliveries to avoid blocking neighbors. It is a logistics problem we solve before the first cabinet is built, not on the day it arrives.
Will salt air from Richardson Bay damage a new kitchen?
Marine air near Paradise Cay and along the waterfront is hard on ordinary hardware and finishes. For homes close to the water we specify corrosion-resistant hardware, moisture-stable door construction, and sealed finishes, and we pay attention to ventilation so humidity does not sit in the cabinetry. The goal is a kitchen that still looks right years after a beachfront install would have started to corrode.
Can we stay in the house during a kitchen remodel?
Most clients do. We seal off the work zone, protect floors and adjacent rooms, and where it helps we set up a temporary cooking and cleanup station elsewhere in the house. On a hillside home where moving out is its own ordeal, keeping the rest of the house clean and usable is part of how we plan the job from the start.
