Design concept for flush-overlay, grain-matched cabinetry in a Silicon Valley post-and-beam kitchen

For Peninsula GCs & Remodelers

General Contractors Building in Silicon Valley

A cabinetry and millwork subcontractor for Eichler remodels, valley-floor kitchens and foothill estates: shop drawings against confirmed appliance specs, a field measure after rough-in, and install on your window from our Rocklin shop.

This page is for the general contractors and remodelers who build between the bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains, from the Eichler tracts of Palo Alto and the bungalow streets of Menlo Park and Mountain View to the estates of Atherton, Woodside, Los Altos Hills and Saratoga, and who want a cabinetry sub that treats appliance specs and field dimensions as seriously as the finish. PineWood Cabinets builds in Rocklin and installs on the Peninsula with its own crews. We work from your plans, hold fabrication behind an approval gate, and deliver when the space is ready. Homeowner-facing work for the region lives on the Silicon Valley hub; this page is the contractor side.

The Sequence on a Peninsula Job

We run the workflow on our trade process page on every job. In Silicon Valley the thing that most often holds up a drawing set is an unconfirmed appliance, so we ask for the cut sheets early and build the rest of the sequence around them.

  1. Scope and drawings review during design. From your plans, elevations and finish schedule. We confirm the run list and the appliance list, and raise clearance, ventilation and transition questions while they are still questions.
  2. Field measure after rough-in. Once framing, plumbing and electrical are stable, we measure the room as built, including the beam lines and glass walls of an Eichler or the tall great-room volumes of a foothill house.
  3. Shop drawings for approval. Dimensioned, with construction, joinery, hardware, finish and every appliance panel called out against its cut sheet. Nothing is cut until you sign off, and approval turnaround is the biggest lever on the lead time.
  4. Fabrication and finishing in Rocklin. Grain-matched fronts and hand-applied finishes are done in controlled shop conditions, not on site. Long-lead veneers and hardware are ordered at approval.
  5. Delivery window set with your superintendent. The space must be enclosed, conditioned and ready for finish work, and the date is confirmed against real readiness rather than a stale schedule.
  6. Install, then the dependent trades. Stone templating after cabinet set, appliance set and final plumbing and electrical trim, flooring transitions. Book those subs against our window.
  7. Walk-through and punch list. Checked against the approved drawings, documented and closed before your client walk.

We do not quote durations in the abstract. Scope, finish complexity, material availability and approval turnaround all move the schedule, and the lead-times page explains each lever. Your package timeline is confirmed at quoting and kept current as the site evolves.

Two ways to contract the package

Our Crews Install, or We Supply Only

Most Peninsula contractors have our crews set the cabinetry. One crew is admitted to the site, communicates through your superintendent rather than around them, protects finished floors and surfaces, cleans up at the end of each day, and works the punch list to closeout. On a flush-overlay job the reveals are set by the people who drew them, which is where that model earns its keep.

Contractors who keep installation with their own finish carpenters can use cabinetry-only supply. Runs are delivered labeled to the approved shop drawings, with install elevations and hardware packed by cabinet, and we stay available for questions during the set. The model is chosen at quoting because it changes both the price and the install window.

Valley floor to Skyline

Job Conditions Across the Valley

Along El Camino Real and the Caltrain corridor, the housing is dense and the kitchens are small. The original Eichlers of Greenmeadow, Fairmeadow and Green Gables in Palo Alto, the Craftsman and period homes of Professorville and Crescent Park, and the bungalows of Allied Arts and Old Mowry all tend to have modest original kitchens, so the work is as much about reclaiming and reorganizing space as about finish. A kitchen in a 1,200-square-foot Eichler leaves no tolerance: post-and-beam framing, glass walls and a flush, material-honest vocabulary mean the cabinetry is built to the measured room and the reveals are planned to the beam lines. Access on these sites is usually straightforward; precision is the constraint.

As the land rises west toward Skyline Boulevard through Portola Valley, Woodside, Los Altos Hills and Saratoga, the lots widen, the ceilings rise and the packages grow. Atherton’s estates and the hillside houses above Los Altos and Saratoga ask for estate-scale kitchens with furniture-style islands, butler’s pantries and millwork that anchors a tall great room, and the delivery is a larger load on a longer drive. We confirm the truck route, the entry and the carry path to the kitchen at the drawings review, and we schedule the install for the size of the package.

Across both, appliance integration is the recurring dependency. Panel-ready refrigeration and dishwashers, concealed ventilation and built-in coffee and beverage stations are drawn against confirmed cut sheets, and their electrical and plumbing rough-in locations are reconciled on the shop drawings before fabrication. Permits are yours as the general contractor; our approved shop drawings support whatever your submittal requires.

What we need from the GC

  • Confirmed appliance cut sheets before drawings are issued; on a Peninsula job this is the most common holdup.
  • A decision-maker for shop-drawing approval, treated as a milestone, not a floating task.
  • A locked finish schedule, including veneer and grain-match intent, so long-lead material is ordered at approval.
  • A stable rough-in before we measure, and an enclosed, conditioned space before we deliver.
  • Early word on slips, so a moved date becomes a re-sequence rather than a disruption to your other subs.

Two scales of package

Remodels in the Original Footprint and Whole-Home Programs

On the valley floor most jobs are remodels inside the original footprint, often with the household working from the kitchen table while the project runs. We confirm the carry path, protect floors and finished rooms along it, stage cabinets so the kitchen is out of service for as few days as possible, and book the stone template for as soon as the cabinets are set. Where walls are moving to reclaim space, the field measure waits for the new rough-in rather than the old plan, because the room that gets built is the only one worth fitting.

In the foothills the package is often a whole-home program on a new build or a major addition, and the pressure is sequence. Cabinetry that arrives before the house is enclosed and conditioned sits exposed; cabinetry that arrives late stalls the finish trades on a large site with many subs waiting. We stay in contact through rough-in so the delivery date tracks real readiness, and a whole-home package can be delivered and installed in phases that follow your schedule, kitchen and pantry first, offices and built-ins as those rooms are ready. One point of contact carries the program from the first drawings review to the last punch item, so your superintendent always knows where cabinetry sits.

Kitchen, pantry, offices and built-ins

Scope on a Valley House

The kitchen anchors the package, but valley households run offices, libraries, mudrooms and bars from the same cabinetry program. Home offices, libraries and closets, walk-in and pass-through pantries, bath vanities, entry custom storage and great-room architectural millwork can all come from one shop, built to one standard, on one delivery. That is one truck to route, one crew to admit and one punch list to close.

PineWood Cabinets was founded in 2006 and operates as the cabinetry division of Voronenko & Ethen Associates, a licensed California contractor (CSLB #1095293). Coverage on the work is whatever our written trade terms state, nothing promised verbally on site. If you remodel or build anywhere on the Peninsula, send the plans, the appliance list and the target dates through our contact page or call +1-650-855-2231, and we will return a project-specific timeline you can sequence the trades around.

Eichlers, appliances and closeout

Silicon Valley Contractor FAQ

What makes an Eichler remodel different for the cabinet sub?

The house sets hard limits. Post-and-beam framing and walls of glass leave little tolerance for a run that is an inch off, and the original kitchens are compact, so flush-overlay cabinetry is built to the measured room with grain and reveals that line up with the beams. We want the field measure after rough-in is stable and the appliance cut sheets before the drawings are issued.

How do you handle panel-ready and integrated appliances?

Appliance specifications are a prerequisite for shop drawings, not a detail to resolve later. Panel-ready refrigeration and dishwashers, concealed ventilation and integrated coffee and beverage stations are drawn against the confirmed cut sheets, so clearances, panel sizes and electrical and plumbing rough-in locations are reconciled on paper before anything is cut.

When should a Peninsula GC engage you?

During design, before framing and rough-in are complete. Scope and drawings review can start from your plans early; the field measure happens once rough conditions are stable. Engaging early creates the slack in the schedule, and the project-specific timeline is confirmed at quoting.

Can you carry a whole-home package on an Atherton or Woodside build?

Yes. Estate-scale kitchens, butler’s pantries, home offices, libraries, mudrooms and great-room millwork can all come from one shop under one point of contact, scheduled as one package. That is one delivery to plan, one crew to admit to the site and one punch list to close.

Do you install, or can our carpenters set the cabinetry?

Either. Our own crews install on most Silicon Valley jobs, coordinated through your superintendent. Cabinetry-only supply is available if you keep installation in-house: runs arrive labeled to the approved shop drawings with install elevations and hardware packed by cabinet. The model is chosen at quoting because it changes the price and the install window.

How is the punch list closed?

A walk-through checks the installed work against the approved drawings, punch items are documented, and they are resolved before your client walk. The same point of contact who carried the shop drawings carries the punch list, so nothing is lost in a handoff.
