For Marin GCs & Remodelers
Cabinetry Sequenced for Marin County General Contractors
A cabinetry and millwork subcontractor that builds to the measured room in Rocklin, plans the delivery path up the hillside before the drawings are approved, and installs on the window you set.
This page is for the general contractors and remodelers who build in Marin, from the bay frontages of Tiburon, Belvedere and Sausalito to the redwood canyons of Mill Valley and the estate streets of Ross, Kentfield and San Anselmo, and who want a cabinetry sub that plans the hillside before the truck leaves the shop. PineWood Cabinets builds in Rocklin and serves Marin directly with its own crews. We work from your plans, hold fabrication behind an approval gate, and treat access as a design input. Homeowner-facing work for the county lives on the Marin County hub; this page is the contractor side.
Approval gate first, access planned early
The Sequence on a Marin Job
We run the workflow on our trade process page on every job. What Marin adds is slope and shade, so the delivery path and the site conditions are settled at the drawings review rather than discovered on install day.
- Scope, drawings and access review during design. From your plans, elevations and finish schedule, reconciled with the architect and designer already on the job. We confirm the run list, the appliances and the route in.
- Field measure after rough-in. Once framing, plumbing and electrical are stable, we measure the room as built, including the split levels and out-of-square walls that canyon and estate houses hide.
- Shop drawings for approval. Dimensioned, with construction, joinery, hardware, finish and the run breakdown for the carry path called out. Nothing is cut until you sign off, and your approval turnaround is the biggest lever on the lead time.
- Fabrication and finishing in Rocklin. Finish is applied in controlled shop conditions, not on a damp hillside site. Long-lead materials are ordered at approval.
- Delivery window set with your superintendent. The space must be enclosed, conditioned and ready for finish work, and the date is confirmed against real readiness rather than a stale schedule.
- Install, then the dependent trades. Stone templating after cabinet set, final plumbing and electrical trim, flooring transitions. Book those subs against our window.
- Walk-through and punch list. Checked against the approved drawings, documented and closed before your client walk.
We do not quote durations in the abstract. Scope, finish complexity, material availability and approval turnaround all move the schedule, and the lead-times page explains each lever. Your package timeline is confirmed at quoting and kept current as the site evolves.
Two ways to contract the package
Our Crews Install, or We Supply Only
Most Marin contractors have our crews set the cabinetry, particularly on waterfront jobs where a run of base cabinets has to sit low and exact so the bay stays in the room. One crew is admitted to the site, communicates through your superintendent rather than around them, protects finished surfaces along the carry path, cleans up at the end of each day, and works the punch list to closeout.
Contractors who keep installation with their own finish carpenters can use cabinetry-only supply. Runs are delivered labeled to the approved shop drawings, with install elevations and hardware packed by cabinet, and we stay available for questions during the set. The model is chosen at quoting because it changes both the price and the install window.
Slope, shade, water and view
Job Conditions Across Marin
On the water in Tiburon, Belvedere and Sausalito the houses are hillside contemporaries and converted houseboats that chase the view from every window, and the cabinetry brief is discipline: a low run of base cabinets, a long working island, tall storage pushed to the interior walls, and millwork kept quiet and exact. The install has to land those sightlines precisely, which is why the field measure and the stone template both wait for the right moment in your sequence.
In the Mill Valley canyons and the shingled hillsides below Mount Tamalpais, the variables are slope, shade and moisture. Steep lots mean tight access and split-level floor plans, so we plan the run breakdown around the real delivery and carry path and set the install for when the space is enclosed and conditioned. The cool, damp air that settles under the redwoods calls for finishes and construction specified for it, and we would rather the cabinetry wait in the shop than acclimate on a shaded site. Where the kitchen sits a level above or below the entry, the run breakdown is sized to the interior stair, and the install day is planned around moving the pieces through the house without touching the finished rooms along the way.
The older estates of Ross, Kentfield and San Anselmo along the Ross Valley creeks lean toward framed, furniture-grade casework that sits comfortably alongside the original architecture, while San Rafael and Novato range from Mission-era cores to mid-century tracts and newer infill, and the Corte Madera and Larkspur flats are straightforward by comparison. Across all of it the kitchen usually opens onto a deck, patio or garden, so the door and transition details are coordinated with your exterior trades. Permits are yours as the general contractor; our approved shop drawings support whatever your submittal requires.
What we need from the GC
- A decision-maker for shop-drawing approval, treated as a milestone, not a floating task.
- Confirmed appliance cut sheets and a locked finish schedule before drawings are issued.
- The route in: driveway grade, stair and switchback dimensions, and which level the kitchen sits on.
- A stable rough-in before we measure, and an enclosed, conditioned space before we deliver.
- Early word on slips, so a moved date becomes a re-sequence rather than a disruption to your other subs.
Two different install days
Occupied Remodels and Ground-Up Builds
A down-to-the-studs remodel in an older village house in Larkspur or San Anselmo usually happens with the family living around the work, and the install is planned for that. We confirm the carry path through the house, protect floors and finished rooms along it, stage cabinets so the kitchen is blocked for as few days as possible, and book the stone template for as soon as the cabinets are set. Many of these houses have the kitchen opening to a deck or garden, so door and transition details are coordinated with your exterior trades before the drawings are approved.
New construction off Paradise Drive or up a Mill Valley canyon is a sequencing problem instead. Cabinetry that arrives before the house is enclosed and conditioned sits exposed on a damp, shaded site; cabinetry that arrives late stalls the finish trades. We stay in contact through rough-in so the delivery date tracks real readiness, and when the site slips we re-sequence rather than hold you to a stale date. Because the architect and the interior designer are usually still active on a Marin build, we keep approvals flowing through you so there is one decision path, one schedule and one point of contact from the first drawings review to the last punch item.
Kitchen, pantry, baths, built-ins and millwork
Scope on a Marin House
A Marin package is rarely just the kitchen. Concealed tall pantry storage, bath vanities, mudroom and entry custom storage, offices and libraries and the architectural millwork that ties a split-level plan together can all come from one shop, built to one standard, on one delivery up the hill. That is one truck to route, one crew to admit and one punch list to close.
PineWood Cabinets was founded in 2006 and operates as the cabinetry division of Voronenko & Ethen Associates, a licensed California contractor (CSLB #1095293). Coverage on the work is whatever our written trade terms state, nothing promised verbally on site. If you build anywhere in Marin, send the plans, the site access and the target dates through our contact page or call +1-650-855-2231, and we will return a timeline and an install plan built for the lot.

Marin County Contractor FAQ
How do you handle delivery on a steep Mill Valley or Sausalito lot?
We confirm the truck route and the carry path with you at the drawings review, size the run breakdown to the stair, the switchback or the split level it has to travel, and set the delivery day with your superintendent for when the space is enclosed and conditioned. On a tight hillside lot the install plan is part of the shop drawings, not a surprise on the day.
When do you want to measure a Marin remodel?
After framing, plumbing and electrical rough-in are stable. Split-level canyon houses and older Ross Valley homes rarely match their drawings, so cabinetry is built to the measured room and scribed on site. We coordinate the measure trip with your schedule so the rough-in is genuinely finished when we arrive.
Do the damp canyon conditions change what you build?
They change what we specify and when we deliver. The cool, moist air that settles under the redwoods below Mount Tamalpais calls for finishes and construction chosen for it, and we ask for an enclosed, conditioned space before cabinetry arrives rather than leaving it to acclimate on a shaded site.
Can our own carpenters install the cabinetry?
Yes. Cabinetry-only supply is available: runs arrive labeled to the approved shop drawings with install elevations and hardware packed by cabinet, and we stay available during the set. Most Marin contractors have our crews install, especially on view jobs where the sightlines have to land exactly. The model is chosen at quoting.
Do you coordinate with the architect and designer already on the job?
Yes, through you. Many Marin projects arrive with an architect and an interior designer attached, and the shop drawings reconcile their intent with the measured room. Approvals still run through the general contractor so there is one decision path and one schedule.
What do you need before fabrication starts?
Approved shop drawings, final field dimensions from the site measure, confirmed appliance cut sheets and a locked finish schedule. Nothing is cut until the drawings are signed off, and approval turnaround is the single biggest lever a contractor has on the lead time.
